Nobody was seriously injured in the crash but the police officer driving the van was taken to hospital for checks

A 10-year-old child suffered a nosebleed after a police van crashed into a car while responding to an emergency call.

It hit a silver Mercedes GLC, which was carrying two children, on Kirkleatham Lane, Redcar, at about 22:00 BST on Sunday.

The driver of the police van was checked by paramedics at the scene and taken to hospital for checks. He suffered bruising.

The force has urged anyone who witnessed the crash to get in touch.

The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) - the police complaints watchdog for England and Wales - said it had not received a referral.
