Constable urged to rethink parish hall plans
People in St Brelade have urged the constable to rethink plans to put a new roof on the parish hall and turn the attic into a flat.
Constable Mike Jackson said he had received mixed opinions about the plans at a meeting on Tuesday night, and he would look at other options.
The other options are scheduled to be raised and discussed during a parish assembly on 28 May.
Local deputy Montfort Tadier also suggested the parish could sell one of its other properties to fund the work.
He said: "There was quite a lot of resistance to the idea of a flat, especially if it would require borrowing over a 20-year period.
"The constable has agreed to come back in a month’s time with more detailed options for funding and to see whether we proceed with just the essentials or the nice-to-haves."
Mr Jackson explained that there was not a vote on the agenda of the meeting.
"The meeting was to consider funding options for the project and seek a steer from parishioners", he said.
"There were varied opinions and I now have to bring options to the next assembly to be held on 28th May when I will ask for a vote."
