The Isle of Man's A18 Mountain Road will remain closed due to snow and sheet ice, the government has confirmed.

Ronaldsway Met Office have issued a yellow weather warning for ice, sleet and hail that will remain in place until midday on Thursday.

The route, which links the capital Douglas and the north of the island, has been closed between the Creg Ny Baa and the Ramsey Hairpin due to wintry conditions.

Gritting has taken place on all major routes and the Department of Infrastructure said it would monitor and re-treat roads if needed.

Motorists are urged to drive to the conditions, "plan journeys accordingly" and "consider gritting paths and driveways".

Meanwhile, Thursday's daytime sailings between the Isle of Man and Lancashire have been adjusted due to a forecast of strong winds.

The Manxman's 08:45 GMT sailing from Douglas to Heysham has been pulled forward to 08:00, with the return 14:15 crossing now scheduled to depart at 13:15.
