Ulez warning for overnight M25 closure

More than 300,000 vehicles pass through junction 10 on the motorway each day

Drivers will have to follow diversion signs during an overnight closure on the M25 to avoid begin charged under London's ultra low emission zone (Ulez) rules.

Last month, gyratory work at junction 10 - through which more than 300,000 vehicles pass each day - saw slip roads on and off the motorway closed for two whole weekends.

However, a planned third weekend of disruption has since been downgraded to a single evening, now taking place from 21:00 GMT on Saturday (2 November) until 10:00 GMT on Sunday.

A National Highways spokesperson said both directions of the M25 and all slip roads between junctions 10 and 11 will be shut to ensure "significant bridge work" is completed.

In addition to following the alternate routes signposted, National Highways said motorists should "check the Transport for London website to see whether their vehicle is subject to Ulez charges".

The Ulez, or 'clean-air zone', was controversially expanded to cover all London boroughs in August 2023, and drivers of non-compliant cars anywhere within it normally face a daily charge of £12.50.

But this can increase to a £180 fine if there is a failure to comply, reduced to £90 if paid within 14 days.

Saturday's closure is for the installation of a new footbridge

Part of a three-year £317m update project, two more M25 closures have also been earmarked for spring 2025.

Due to be completed next summer, the work aims to implement new "jet lanes" which go through the junction with the A3 avoiding traffic signals.

However, Saturday night's closure is for the installation of the new Clearmount footbridge over the M25, said to be the longest bridge build on the project.
