A contractor has been appointed to carry out the renovation of the Alexandra Theatre in Bognor Regis, West Sussex.

Neilcott Construction has been selected for the job, with Arun District Council saying "significant progress" has already been made on the site.

Detailed plans for the work are now being finalised, with work due to start before Christmas.

It is hoped the theatre will reopen in mid-2026.

The rebuild is expected to cost more than £15m, with £12.19m coming from central government and £3m from the council.

Council leader Martin Lury said: "We are delighted to have started works on the rejuvenation of Alexandra Theatre, the first of a series of projects which will transform Bognor Regis town centre over the next few years.

"We look forward to welcoming audiences, performers and artistes to our new theatre."
