Man, 70, dies after being struck by car in hit-and-run

A 70-year-old man has died after being struck by a car in a hit-and-run in South Lanarkshire.

Emergency services were called to Quarry Street in Hamilton about 00:40, and pronounced the man dead at the scene.

The pedestrian is believed to have been hit by a small black car, which police said was possibly a Mercedes A-Class.

The driver failed to stop after the crash, according to officers.

Sgt John Houston said: "Extensive inquiries are ongoing to trace the car involved and its occupants as soon as possible.

"I urge anyone who was in the area of Quarry Street on Sunday morning around the time of the crash who either witnessed the crash take place or who has any information on the car involved to contact us."
