Buses will be diverted and alternative bus stops put in place during the closure of Exeter High Street to vehicles, Devon County Council and Stagecoach have announced.

The city centre road will be closed for about three weeks from Monday 24 February for essential work and will affect services by other bus companies.

The closure means buses will not be able to access the High Street from the junction with Queen Street to the junction with Paris Street.

Some bus stops on High Street, Sidwell Street and Queen Street will also be closed temporarily.

Passengers will be able to use stops on Fore Street and Sidwell Street or temporary bus stops on Bampfylde Street.

Buses will divert from the lower High Street via Queen Street and New North Road, resuming a normal route on Sidwell Street.

In the opposite direction, buses approaching from the Odeon will divert via Cheeke Street, Paris Street, Bampfylde Street, Paris Street, New North Road and Queen Street, resuming a normal route on the lower High Street.

Service S will not serve Cheeke Street or Sidwell Street, but will divert from the Paris Street roundabout.

Services H will divert from the Paris Street roundabout resuming a normal route at Clock Tower.

People travelling to the Central Railway Station will need to alight on New North Road, the council said.
