A composer is writing a song inspired by historical postcards sent from Cleethorpes during the 20th Century.

Stuart Wood bought 200 postcards sent from the resort between 1900 and the 1970s after moving to the North East Lincolnshire town last year.

He is working with local community groups to put a "musical within a song" together.

Mr Wood hopes the song, Postcards from Cleethorpes, and an associated video will be used to promote Cleethorpes next summer.

He told BBC Radio Humberside: "As soon as I had them in my hands I thought it was like a musical because of the messages written on them and Postcards from Cleethorpes came from that really".

He began writing what he has described as a four-minute musical within one song.

"It's about a divorced person that arrives in Cleethorpes which is a town that was built as a pleasure garden in a way," Mr Wood said.

The postcards, which depict seaside scenes including Cleethorpes pier and the prom, will make up the backdrop for a video to the song.

Mr Wood said: "It will be a bit like Mary Poppins, combining animation with live action, but the background will be the postcards".

He has been working with local groups and choirs and Create North East Lincolnshire to bring the project to life.

Mr Wood hopes the video will be used to promote Cleethorpes for the 2025 holiday season.
