Demolition plan for former Bradford pub approved
Plans to demolish an empty pub and build housing in its place have been approved.
A contentious application to demolish the Halfway House on Huddersfield Road in Bradford and build a garage and vehicle repair shop in its place was approved last year.
Work never started and earlier this year a new application was submitted to demolish the building in Wyke and replace it with four homes.
That plan has now been approved by Bradford Council, with officers agreeing housing would be a good use of the land.
More than 100 people had objected to the previous garage plan, the Local Democracy Reporting Service said.
Some objections were from neighbours who feared the garage would lead to loud noises through the day, disturbing nearby households.
Others lamented the loss of a long-standing and once popular pub and argued the building should be listed.
By contrast, the new application attracted just one public comment which supported the scheme and argued it would be a better option than a vehicle business.
Approving the proposal, planning officers referred to the "urgent need" for housing in Bradford.
They added: “The construction of residential development would represent a sustainable approach to development close to existing infrastructure such as shops, other facilities and public transport."
