Man hurt after car 'deliberately' driven at him
A man is in hospital after an alleged street assault that began when a car was "deliberately" driven at him.
Police said the 31-year-old was assaulted by three men, who got out of a Mercedes immediately after the collision on Berkley Street in Toxteth.
Afterwards, the car drove away, but was later found by officers.
The man is being treated for cuts to his head and a leg injury but is in a stable condition.
'Traumatic experience'
The incident happened just before 18:15 BST close to the junction with Upper Stanhope Street.
The car, a grey Mercedes GLA, was then driven away down Emerson Street and found a short time later on Cairns Street.
It had been seized for forensic examination, Merseyside Police said.
Det Insp Darren Taylor said an investigation had been launched.
“Our investigation into this incident is in its very early stages, but it does appear the car was deliberately driven at the man who was then assaulted by the occupants," he said.
"Not only would this have been a traumatic experience for the victim, but it would have been shocking for any onlookers.
He appealed to local residents and anyone who was in the area between 18:00 and 18:45 to contact the force.
“Every piece information is vitally important to our investigation and could help us establish what happened so we can provide answers for his family,” he said.
