Knife search take place in town parks

Police using metal detectors to search for potential weapons found two suspicious items in the bushes of a town park.

Thames Valley Police officers conducted the sweep in Salt Hill Park, Slough, over the weekend as part of Operation Sceptre, a national campaign aimed at tackling knife crime and violence.

A spokesperson said after the "thorough" search the majority of the park was clear, but "items were found in the bushes and booked in for destruction as they had no evidential purpose".

A different sweep in Herschel Park turned up no offending items.

In a statement to residents, a spokesperson said: "If you happen to come across any knives or potential weapons that could cause harm to the public don't hesitate to go to Slough Police Station at the front office and put them in the amnesty bin that we have there, where the knives are disposed of."
