The Met Office has issued a yellow level warning for snow and ice across Northern Ireland.

The warning came into effect at 15:00 GMT on Thursday and will run until 10:00 on Saturday.

A mix of wintry showers will continue to fall particularly across northern counties throughout Thursday.

Snow is possible at low levels and an additional few centimetres of fresh snow will accumulate over modest hills (above 150m) with a further 10cm possible over mountain tops.

Icy patches will develop on untreated surfaces as temperatures drop below sub-zero.

There is also a risk of grit being diluted and less effective due to wash off from passing showers.

Drivers should take care and allow extra time for journeys.

In the Republic of Ireland, Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow wind and rain warning from Friday night into Saturday morning across the country.

A Status Orange warning - the second highest level - has also been issued for rain for counties Cork, Kerry and Galway on Saturday morning.

Further weather warnings will follow this weekend across the island ahead of Storm Bert, the second storm of the season 2024/2025.
