Roof-climbing vandals targeting library

Attempts to stop vandals climbing on to a roof to attack a town's library could include an extended 2.5m (8ft) anti-climb fence.
Westmorland and Furness Council has lodged an application to carry out security work to the back of the Grade II listed Barrow Library on Ramsden Square in Barrow-in-Furness.
The fencing, including a black anti-climb security mesh, is being proposed to cover the rear of the site.
Planning documents state the move is designed to tackle to "significant health and safety concerns" posed to trespassers who access the roof area.
"Due to unauthorised access to the library roof area out of hours via the external fire escape, alterations to the existing mesh and gate protection is required," the application claimed.
"The proposed works aim to increase security and restrict trespass, which currently poses significant health and safety concerns to trespassers and results in damage to the library due to vandalism."
According to the plans, the current fencing - which is about a foot shorter but also has anti-climb mesh fitted - is not providing "adequate security".
The application is undergoing public consultation.
