A man who died from a stab injury in an East Sussex town centre has been named by police as Billy Ripley.

Officers were called to the Vicarage Field area of Hailsham at about 18:20 BST on Thursday to reports a man had suffered a serious chest injury.

Mr Ripley, 20, was treated by paramedics but died at the scene.

Police said a 21-year-old local woman has been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender following the arrest of a 17-year-old boy on suspicion of murder.

Both suspects remain in custody.

Det Ch Insp Alex Campbell, senior investigating officer, said: "We would once again like to express our sincere condolences to the family of the young man who has lost his life.

"They will continue to receive our full support while we search for answers."

"Our enquiries are ongoing, but we can confirm the individuals involved were known to each other."

Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses or for any relevant video footage.
