'His death leaves a void that can never be filled'

The death of a man after an attack outside a club has left his family with "a void that can never be filled".

Relatives of Simon Clayton described him as "infectiously charismatic" and said their world had been "ripped apart".

He died in hospital after an incident outside the Waterfoot Social Club in Ashworth Street, Rossendale, at about 23:51 GMT on Saturday.

A 60-year-old man was initially arrested on suspicion of assault causing grievous bodily harm and was bailed pending further enquiries.

Accrington man Mr Clayton's family said he was "adored and loved his family dearly".

The family added: "He will be missed more than words can describe."

Det Ch Insp John McNamara said: "First and foremost, my thoughts are with Simon’s loved ones, at what must be an incredibly upsetting and difficult time for them."

He said "this is being treated as an isolated incident, and there is not thought to be any wider threat to the public".

The detective appealed for help from the public for any footage, or information, "no matter how insignificant you may think it".
