A 12-year-old boy was knocked over by a car on a busy road in Birmingham.

It happened on Winson Green Road at about 16:00 GMT on Tuesday, West Midlands Police said. The boy was treated for potentially serious injuries and taken to hospital.

The car driver remained at the scene and assisted officers with their inquiries.

Police have urged anyone with dashcam footage or who was in the area at the time and has any information to get in touch.

The A4040 was closed in both directions between the canal bridge and Magdala Street while the emergency services were at the scene. Buses were diverted for much of the evening.
