Carbon monoxide warning during summer months

Jersey firefighters have issued a warning about the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning during the summer months.

The island's fire service urged people to make sure they had a carbon monoxide alarm in their property.

The poisonous gas - which is produced when fossil fuels burn inefficiently from devices such as faulty boilers or cookers - has a lack of colour, taste and smell.

Firefighters said there were about 60 deaths each year in the UK from the gas and having a working alarm could reduce the risk.

Jersey Fire and Rescue Service said on Facebook carbon monoxide was a "silent killer".

It said "carbon monoxide is invisible to the human senses", which was why the alarms were so important.
