Arson arrest after front door goes up in flames

A woman has been arrested on suspicion of arson after the front door and letterbox of a home went up in flames.

Emergency services were called to a property in Sweden Place, Brandon, Suffolk, at 18:31 GMT on 29 October following reports of a blaze.

Fire crews used breathing apparatus to extinguish the fire on the front door using a one-hose reel jet.

Suffolk Police confirmed the fire was being treated as arson, and a woman in her 40s had been arrested in connection with the incident.

The woman was taken for questioning to Bury Police Investigation Centre where she remains.

The blaze was attended by firefighters from Brandon and Mildenhall, as well as crews from Norfolk fire stations in Methwold, Thetford and Downham Market.

It was initially believed the property was occupied, but it was quickly established all occupants were accounted for.

One person was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation by an ambulance crew, and the incident declared was closed at 21:07.
