Man arrested after broken glass thrown at shop employees
A man has been arrested after throwing pieces of broken glass at staff members at a shop in south Belfast.
Police say they received a report at 14:15 GMT on Wednesday that a man in the Lombard Street area had entered a shop and attempted to sell a suspected stolen phone.
The suspect became aggressive after the transaction was declined. He was asked to leave and broke the glass panel of the shop door before throwing pieces of the glass at staff members as he tried to get back in.
A 31-year-old man was arrested a short time later on suspicion of theft, possessing an offensive weapon in a public place and grievous bodily with intent.
'Spat on an officer'
One staff member also sustained injuries from the glass being thrown.
While being transported to custody, the man became aggressive again and assaulted an officer and attempted to bite them, police said.
The suspect also spat on an officer.
