Brad Craven, 72, was described as a "very thoughtful" man by his family

A family has paid tribute to a 72-year-old cyclist after his death following a crash involving a car.

Brad Craven, from Roath, Cardiff, died in hospital on 20 June five weeks after the "catastrophic" incident in Grangetown.

South Wales Police said a 19-year-old man from Sully, Vale of Glamorgan, who was arrested following the incident has been released under investigation.

Mr Craven's family described the retired social worker at Llandough Hospital as a "very thoughtful and caring man" who will be "remembered by all".

The "confident" and "experienced" cyclist was with his brother on their usual route when the crash took place, according to his family.

The pair were cycling on Dunleavy Drive on 17 May when the crash, which involved a blue Fiat 500 travelling in the opposite direction, took place at around 08:40 GMT.

South Wales Police said the investigation was now being treated as a fatal road traffic collision.

In a tribute, Mr Craven's family said he would "always put the welfare of others before his own".

Officers are now appealing for any witnesses or those with dashcam footage to come forward.
