Volunteers have planted 30 trees in a park in Grimsby.

Community group All Things Good and Nice raised more than £7,000 for the trees which were planted in Scartho with the help of local schoolchildren.

The planting was part of North East Lincolnshire Council's programme Greening Up Our Place which has seen more than 400 trees planted across the borough since the initiative began at the beginning of 2024.

Neil Cartwright from the group said: "We wanted to improve our local environment but we wanted to leave a legacy."

He told BBC Radio Humberside: "We worked closely with the council about putting the right trees in the right place.

"We don't have very much urban tree cover in North East Lincolnshire".

Council figures show some parts of the borough, including East Marsh and West Marsh in Grimsby and Immingham, have as little as 2% tree coverage.

The strategy aims to change that and increase the number of trees in North East Lincolnshire.
