Hospice launches Christmas tree recycling scheme

A hospice has launched a scheme to collect and recycle Christmas trees in exchange for a donation.

Katharine House Hospice, based in Adderbury, Oxfordshire, has operated it's Tree-Cycle project every festive season since 2021.

People living across the north of the county can sign up to have their tree collected on the hospice's website.

The collected trees will then be chipped by Acreman's Arboriculture Ltd, near Banbury, into eco-friendly mulch.

Carley Lambourne, Katharine House Hospice events and challenges officer, said the scheme was a "win-win for everyone".

"Not only does it take the hassle out of post-Christmas clean-up, but it also helps raise much-needed funds for our essential services, helping make a lasting impact on our community this festive season and beyond."

Jenny Mead, who has taken part in the Tree-cycle since its launch in 2021, said the scheme was "so easy and efficient" to use.

Ms Mead, whose sister Lucy was "wonderfully cared for" at the hospice, added that using the tree collection service was "an acknowledgement to her [Lucy] as well as a simple way to support the hospice too".

People living the following postcodes are eligible for the scheme:

• OX7 (3,4,5,6)
• OX15 (0,4,5,6)
• OX16 (1,2,3,9)
• OX17 (1,2,3)
• NN13 (5,6,7)

Katherine House provides specialist palliative care for about 1,300 adults with incurable illnesses every year.
