A man has been arrested after two people died and another was critically injured in a crash in Leicestershire.

Officers were called to the A47 Normandy Way in Hinckley at about 22:20 BST on Friday after reports of a crash involving a Ford Fiesta and an Audi S4.

Leicestershire Police said the driver of the Fiesta, a 23-year-old woman, and a passenger in the Audi, a 31-year-old man, were both pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Audi, a 29-year-old man, was taken to University Hospital Coventry and Walsgrave with life-threatening injuries and remains in a critical condition.

Arrest

In a statement released on Saturday, police said: "The Audi involved in the collision is believed to have been in convoy with another Audi, a black S3, in the minutes leading up the collision.

"The Audi S3 was not involved in the collision and no-one in this car was injured."

A 29-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and is in police custody, the force said.

Det Sgt Ed Des-Chanelle said: "I am very keen to hear from anyone who was driving in the area of the A47 last night and can offer any information about the manner in which all of these cars were driving."
