Project to regenerate town's seafront set to start
West Sussex County Council Work to regenerate the seafront of a West Sussex town is set to start.
A construction company has been appointed for the project on Bognor Regis Esplanade with work due to begin in October.
West Sussex County Council has allocated £1.3m to the delivery of the scheme.
The project, which extends from Lennox Street to Clarence Road, will "enhance the look and feel of the seafront", a county council spokesperson said.
It will "create an accessible and connected community space".
Improved pedestrian crossings and a walkway between the on-street parking and the sea wall aim to provide easier access to the seafront.
Traffic calming features and a 20mph speed limit will also be introduced to improve safety.
The Esplanade will be bordered by rain gardens, with plants chosen to improve drainage.
Councillor Steve Waight, cabinet member for support services and economic development, said: “The Esplanade project aims to boost economic growth by making it easier for visitors to enjoy everything Bognor Regis has to offer."
Construction is expected to finish by April 2025.
