Maui's grass-fire cycle explained

As Hawaii completes 64 years of statehood, the island is experiencing the worst US wildfire in over a century. Species of grass that aren't native to Hawaiian land are acting as fuel to the fires in Maui through a phenomenon researchers are calling the 'grass-fire cycle'.

What is this cycle? How can we stop it?
