Damanhur: The world's largest underground temple
50 km north of Turin, northern Italy, nestled in the foothills of the Alps, the Damanhur Federation was settled in 1979 by Oberto Airaudi, who changed his name to Falco Tarassaco. With 600 citizens and a worldwide community, the “Damanhurians” have set up a new philosophical way of living.
Under Falco's leadership, the first inhabitants of Damanhur began secretly digging the 'Temples of Humankind', which now reside around 100ft below the surface. The temple was discovered in 1992, in 2001 the Guinness World Records recorded it as the largest underground temple in the world.
