The mysterious stones that may change our view of astronomy
In the south Australian countryside sits a mysterious stone arrangement, but no one knows what it was for. It's thought the site was built by the Wadawurrung (Wathaurong) people - the traditional inhabitants of the area. All understanding of the rocks' significance was lost during European colonisation. The only clues to its use are that its alignment indicates the solstices and equinoxes, leading scientists to believe it could be one of the world’s oldest astronomical observatories.
