Sicily's unusual world of the dead
Sicily has the largest concentration of documented mummies anywhere in the world outside Egypt. For centuries, well-to-do noble families in Sicily had a tradition of mummifying their dead.
Hundreds of mummies are still preserved in churches and crypts throughout Sicily, providing clues to how these people lived and died. In part one of this three part series, BBC Reel gained exclusive access to the world's only summer mummy school, to find out more.
A series by Melissa Hogenboom & Pierangelo Pirak.
