Tucker Carlson interview: Russia-Ukraine ties will eventually heal, says Putin

Vladimir Putin has claimed the war in Ukraine will end in a settlement, in his first interview with a Western journalist since Russia's full-scale invasion of its neighbour in 2022.

"This endless mobilisation in Ukraine, the hysteria, the domestic problems, sooner or later it will result in an agreement," he told Tucker Carlson.

He added that it might sound strange, but that ties between Ukrainians and Russians would eventually be rebuilt. "It will take a lot of time, but they will heal," he said.

The Russian leader also used the interview try to justify his full-scale invasion, almost two years ago, repeating his claims that Russian security was at stake.

None of the actual facts of the invasion were presented to him, including allegations of war crimes in Bucha, Irpin and far beyond.
