Detained and forced to have a 'virginity test'

Despite having no scientific or clinical basis, so-called virginity tests are still carried out in more than 20 countries according to the UN.

BBC Arabic spoke to Esra, a former political prisoner in Egypt, who described her experience with forced "virginity tests" during her time in prison.

Her name has been changed to protect her identity.

According to Egyptian law, prisoners have the right to submit a written or verbal complaint to the prison warden.
