Watch: Thieves steal keyless car with relay device
Doorbell footage shows the moment two thieves stole a keyless car using a relay device.
One man can be seen approaching the house and holding up the device and shortly after, the engine of the Mercedes S Class can he heard starting.
The theft took place at a private address in Breckland at 2.30am on 7 April and police arrested Mindaugas Grizas, 36, Lukas Zvirgzdys, 18, later that day.
Grizas, of no fixed address in Thetford, Norfolk, and Zvirgzdys, of Hillburn Road, Wisbech, Cambridgeshire, admitted theft and using apparatus for the purpose of interfering with wireless telegraphy.
Grizas also pleaded guilty to driving without insurance and driving while disqualified.
At Norwich Crown Court, Grizas was sentenced to 16 months imprisonment and 24 months disqualification from driving.
Zvirgzdys was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment, suspended for 18 months, and ordered to carry out 200 hours of community service.
Sgt Gary Morris from Breckland District Crime Unit said people should take simple steps to keep their keyless cars safe.
"Buy a faraday box or pouch… this blocks the signal from the keys meaning it can not be picked up by a relay device outside your home," he said.
