'No shortcut to independence' - Swinney

There is no shortcut to independence other than the "hard yards" of persuading people of its merits, the first minister has said.

John Swinney was speaking at an event to mark the 10th anniversary of the Scottish independence referendum, which was held on 18 September 2014.

Swinney also said he felt that the referendum process had left an "overwhelmingly positive legacy" on the country.

In 2014, Scottish voters backed remaining in the UK by 55.3% to 44.7%.
