'I hope they get relegated so I can buy the club'

Oasis are no strangers to huge audiences and their reunion shows will see them playing in front of thousands of fans across the world, but that has not always been the case.

Back in 1996, they were still getting used to stadium shows and found themselves preparing for what Noel Gallagher told BBC North West Tonight was "probably... the biggest day of our lives" - the first of two gigs at Maine Road, the then-home of their beloved Manchester City.

While Noel was excited about his own future, his predictions for City were not quite as rosy.

Speaking to reporter Stuart Flinders outside his mum's house in Burnage, he said he was not confident of them ever being successful and just hoped "they win something while I'm alive".
