Carriage horse helps disabled people enjoy riding

A carriage horse has been helping enrich the lives of children and adults with disabilities or learning difficulties by giving them rides in an adapted carriage for wheelchairs.

Sam, an 18-year-old blue blagdon gelding, is part of the team at Park Lane Stables in Richmond, run by Natalie O’Rourke.

The specially adapted carriage means that full-time wheelchair users can safely enjoy carriage driving, an experience they may not have been able to otherwise take part in.

Sam has been nominated for a BBC Radio London Make a Difference Award in a new category recognising animals that improve the life of an individual or a group of people.
