Shetland oysters back on the market after 130 years

A family-run croft in Shetland has made history by exporting oysters for what is thought to be the first time in more than 130 years.

The shipment of about 1,000 molluscs will make a 700-mile journey to Borough Market in London.

Three generations of the Brown family – Winston, his mother Beatrice, and daughter Shannon – worked together to quality-check and package the oysters before sending them down south.

Shetland’s last known commercial oyster export happened in 1893.
