Watch: Met Police officer rammed off motorcycle
A man who deliberately knocked a Metropolitan Police officer off his motorcycle, leaving him with life-changing injuries, has been jailed for five and a half years.
David Doyle, 19, was being pursued by PC Richard Keel on Camden Street in north London on 17 May, when he reversed into the officer. The teenager then fled the scene in the stolen vehicle he was driving.
Doyle, of Northolt, north-west London, pleaded guilty in August to causing grievous bodily harm with intent and multiple driving offences. At his sentencing on Thursday he was also disqualified from driving for 81 months.
PC Keel said: “Although I’m on a challenging journey to recovery, I’m pleased that Doyle has been brought to justice for the attack. This incident is a reminder of the dangers we face as we strive to keep communities and Londoners safe."
