Colum Eastwood stands down as leader of the SDLP
Colum Eastwood has announced he will stand down as leader of the Social Democratic and Labour Party.
Speaking at a news conference in Londonderry, he said he will formally resign at the party conference on 5 October.
He said it had been a great privilege to serve as party leader.
Mr Eastwood endorsed South Belfast and Mid Down MP Claire Hanna to take over the job, saying she is "far and away the best option for members".
