Isle of Skye murder case: How did the attacks unfold?

A man who carried out a series of shootings in the Highlands has been found guilty of murdering his brother-in-law and attempting to kill his wife and two other people.

Finlay MacDonald, 41, repeatedly stabbed his wife Rowena at their home on the island of Skye before driving to another village, where he shot and killed his brother-in-law John MacKinnon.

He then drove another 40 miles to the mainland where he shot John McKenzie and his wife Fay MacKenzie in their home.

Father-of-four MacDonald had denied all the charges and claimed he was suffering from an abnormality of mind at the time.

The BBC’s Iain Macinnes explains how the attacks unfolded.
