Farmers protest in Derbyshire over tax changes
Farmers in Derbyshire have protested over the government's plans to change inheritance tax for farms.
Tractor drivers sounded their horns and flashed their lights as they joined in a rally, passing through Matlock and Baslow.
Under plans announced in the Budget, inherited agricultural properties worth more than £1m will be subject to inheritance tax at 20% from April 2026 - having previously been exempt.
Ben Ardern, a farmer in Buxton who led the demonstration, told BBC Radio Derby the government's plans could be "the end of British farming."
"The inheritance tax what they're throwing on us, the fertiliser taxes... we struggle to make a living as it is," he added.
Sir Keir Starmer has said the "vast majority" of farmers would not be affected by the tax changes.
