Alex Salmond’s coffin flown home to Scotland

Alex Salmond's body has been flown back to Scotland on a flight from North Macedonia.

The former first minister's coffin was draped in a Saltire by Alba party colleague Tasmina Ahmed-Sheikh and put on a chartered flight from Ohrid Airport.

The private plane, paid for by Scottish businessman and philanthropist Sir Tom Hunter, arrived at Aberdeen Airport shortly before 14:00 BST.

The coffin was greeted by members of his family, new Alba Party leader Kenny MacAskill and a lone piper before being taken in a hearse to Fraserburgh in Aberdeenshire.
