Halloween rave drug victim named as Morgan Phillip Miller-Smith

A boy who died after taking a drugs overdose at a Halloween rave in Conwy county has been named as Morgan Phillip Miller-Smith.

The 16-year-old died in the early hours of Sunday morning after falling ill at an event at Gwytherin, near Abergele.

A post-mortem revealed he died after taking a pink ecstasy-type tablet at the rave.

North Wales Police has urged anyone who took drugs at the event to go to hospital if they feel unwell.

Supt Gareth Evans said: "This is a truly tragic incident in which a young boy has lost his life.

"Taking these pills is like playing Russian roulette in that you have no control over the risk. You could die."

Mr Miller-Smith, from Conwy, died at Glan Clwyd Hospital in Bodelwyddan, Denbighshire on Sunday morning.

About 200 people attended the event at the barn in Gwytherin.

Another 16-year-old boy was also taken seriously ill after taking drugs at the event but has made a full recovery.

Owner Elin Williams said the event was "properly organised and fully licensed by Conwy council" and that Mr Miller-Smith was given immediate medical attention by the first aiders on site.

Mr Miller-Smith's school Ysgol Aberconwy have paid tribute to him.

Headteacher Ian Gerrard said: "It was with great sadness that we received the recent news about the death of one of our sixth form students - Morgan Miller-Smith.

"Morgan was a popular student at the school and he was highly regarded by his teachers and fellow pupils.

"He had many friends who are devastated by this sad news - the school will be able to provide support for any pupils during this time. Morgan will be sadly missed by all who knew him."
