An investigation has been launched following the death of an inmate at a super-prison in Wrexham.

Luke Jones, 22, from the north Wales area, was found dead at HMP Berwyn on Saturday.

North Wales Police said the death at the £250m category C jail was not currently being treated as suspicious.

The Ministry of Justice said there would be an independent investigation by the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman.

A spokesman said: "Separately, a member of staff at HMP Berwyn required hospital treatment following an unrelated incident on Sunday, 1 April 2018.

"We do not tolerate violence in our prisons and always push for the strongest possible penalties for those involved.

"The police are investigating these matters, so it would be inappropriate to comment further."
