Parc prison: Seventh inmate in two months dies

An investigation has been launched after a seventh inmate died at a prison in just over two months.

Security firm G4S, which runs Parc Prison in Bridgend, said 47-year-old Wayne Hay died on Tuesday.

It added that the prison and probation ombudsman would now investigate the death and that his next of kin have been informed.

"The cause of death is for the coroner to determine," a spokesperson said.

South Wales Police said in March that four of the previous deaths were believed to be drug-related, with two of those being treated as non-suspicious.

John Rose and Jason Hussey both died at the jail on 27 February, while Christopher Stokes died on 9 March.

Justin Lewis died on 16 March, Shay Andrews on 18 March and Cameron Anthony on 19 March.

Police said a synthetic opioid called Nitazene had been identified in connection with four deaths.

The force said spice, another synthetic drug, had been identified in two of the four deaths.

In March, prisons and probation ombudsman, Adrian Usher, urged all prisoners in possession of spice to dispose of it.
