Aberystwyth: Neighbour disgusted by anti-English note

The neighbour of a family told to go back to Birmingham after moving to a Welsh seaside town has dubbed the incident "disgusting".

An anonymous note was stuck to a house on Iorwerth Avenue, Aberystwyth, Ceredigion, on Monday night.

Calling the family's accent "vomit-inducing", it suggested they return to "Brummyland".

Wyn Davies, who lives on the street, felt it was "impossible anyone here should have written that".

Dyfed-Powys Police is investigating the incident and treating it as a hate crime.

The offensive note read: "Iorwerth Ave was once a nice, quiet and pleasant residential area until a load of [expletive] from the Midlands hit it.

"Low-life like you should be forced to live in fenced-in sites, preferably back where you came from.

"Why don't you take your clapped out crappy boats, jeeps, cars and your hideous vomit-inducing accents back to Brummyland."

Mr Davies said he had spoken about it with another resident and they were "both disgusted with it, and I would imagine that everybody feels the same".

He called one of the family members targeted "one of the most amiable people here".

He added: "If I wanted help - and I do want help at times - he's the one person I can turn to."

Dyfed-Powys Police said: "An offensive note was left outside a property that has caused distress to the occupants.

"Officers would like to speak with the individual who left the note."
