Met Office issue snow and ice warnings for north Wales

Snow and ice warnings are in force across north Wales with the cold winter weather forecast to last until New Year's Eve.

The Met Office has issued a weather warning running from 18:00 GMT on Wednesday until 14:00 on Thursday.

A similar alert for all of south and west Wales has now been cancelled.

Earlier, the A55 eastbound was shut at Llanddulas, due to multiple crashes because of adverse weather conditions but the road has now reopened.

North Wales Police said traffic officers had been dealing with "lots of calls" due to road conditions, leading to a number of incidents on main routes.

Highway agencies said snow has fallen across north Wales, and in the south on the A465 Heads of the Valleys, Blaenau Gwent.

Motorists have been asked to take care approaching the A465 stretch between Dukestown and Brynmawr.

Western Power said more than 1,700 properties had been left without power during the weekend.

Much of Wales were battered by strong winds and heavy rain, just days after homes and businesses were hit by flooding.
