A major road in south Wales will remain closed for a second day after the surface was destroyed in a large lorry fire.

The A465 Heads of the Valleys will stay shut from Dowlais Top to Cefn Coed in Merthyr Tydfil until Friday morning.

A lorry carrying tyres caught fire at about 16:00 BST on Wednesday and has melted the road surface.

The Welsh Government said work to resurface the road is expected to begin on Thursday evening.

Smoke could be seen for miles around during the blaze and road inspections took place earlier.
