A police investigation has been launched into a social media video that appears to show a driver hitting more than 150mph (240km/h) on the A75.
The incident happened between 15:40 and 15:50 BST on 23 October between Eastriggs and Annan.
The speed limit on the vast majority of the road is 60mph (95km/h).
The video involves a "dark-coloured performance model Volkswagen". Anyone with dashcam footage or who saw the vehicle has been asked to come forward.
