An 82-year-old woman has died in a two-car crash on the A710 in south west Scotland.

Three people have also been taken to hospital following the accident on the road between Dalbeattie and Kippford at about 21:35 on Thursday.

Emergency services were called out to the head-on collision and the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two men - aged 83 and 23 - and a 20-year-old woman have been taken to Dumfries Infirmary for treatment.

The road was closed for several hours allowing for crash scene investigations to be carried out.

Sgt Paul Dodds said: "An investigation is under way to establish the circumstances of the crash.

"I am appealing to anyone who was on the A710 around the time of the incident to contact us.

"In particular, I'm asking motorists with dash cams to check their footage and hand in any images which could assist us in our inquiries."
