Snake captured at Inverness' Raigmore Hospital

A corn snake has been found in the grounds of Raigmore Hospital in Inverness.

Animal welfare officers from the Scottish SPCA were alerted on Wednesday and took the animal into their care on Thursday after it had been caught.

However, the charity said it needed medical treatment and died, despite the efforts of a vet.

The SSPCA described the non-venomous snake, which can be kept as pets, as a "stray".

NHS Highland said: "Our security team at Raigmore Hospital were alerted about what is believed to have been a corn snake that had been seen in the grounds of the hospital.

"The SSPCA were alerted and retrieved the reptile."
