Man, 47, arrested in Renfrew common close murder probe

A 47-year-old man has been arrested and charged by police in a murder investigation after the death of a man in a common close in Renfrew.

Alastair Campbell, 52, was pronounced dead at the scene in Renfield Street after emergency services attended at about 03:00 GMT on Monday.

The man is due to appear before Paisley Sheriff Court on Friday.

A 35-year-old man was previously arrested over the death, but was released pending further inquiries.

Det Ch Insp Graham McCreadie, from Police Scotland's Major Investigation Team, said earlier: "It's vital we find out exactly what happened to Alastair, and I'm appealing to the public for help to do that."
